Remember these are generational problems will require generational solutions. They will require patience and grace on all sides. They will require the willingness to ask uncomfortable questions and also a willingness to look beyond the current manifestation of these generational problems and find the root cause.
Looking at Racism – part 2
Part 1 can be found here: https://unhiddenlight.blog/2020/06/25/looking-at-racism-part-1/ We all come at the subject of racism from different angles, some have been victims of racism and have been directly affected by the consequences of its evil. Some have been distributors of racist abuse, overtly racially prejudice people who are so comfortable in their own hate that... Continue Reading →
Looking at Racism – part 1
Racism is a doctrine so utterly devoid of merit that it is offensive in its very suggestion before we even get to the odious nature of its effects. It is the bastard child of arrogance and ignorance and it has been wielded as a weapon of division by power hungry rapacious sociopaths for far too long.
know that this place, like all places, is not a destination, it is merely a beginning.
Representation matters in movies, because when we do not portray a world that is representative of the reality of this beautifully diverse planet that we live on, when we do not present the possibility of impossibility to all; we deny people the opportunity to dream and to project. It is not simply the narrative that we lead people to believe, by giving them this historic line that they are some how less than, but it is also the lack of possibility that we deny people, by reducing their capacity to dream.
A combination of time and thoughtfulness is slightly delaying the progress of season 2. I feel I need to be much more deliberate with what I write these days. Even though we don’t mean them to be, what we choose to share in such a forum is to an extent indelible to the reader. As... Continue Reading →
Unhiddenlight: Season 2
Hey you, yeah you, remember that thing you were decent at? Ok you thought you weren’t, but you were, you should do that again. Said the little voice, to the not listening brain, over and over.
I don't recall how any of this works. Let's try anyway, just don't call it a comeback 😉
55 Years On And Still As Poignant As The Day It Was Delivered
It is amazing to me, that a speech delivered way back in 1963 can be still so poignant in 2018. Whilst we should celebrate the progress that has been made, we should be ashamed and embarrassed at where we have failed; and we must continue to strive to deliver freedom and equality to all people... 2018 The Search For Balance
I’m not normally one for new years resolutions, or even really putting any significance in the number associated with the measurement of time that we call a year. However 2018 feels different, after a sad 2016, 2017 was supposed to be a better year; 2017 was actually such a dumpster fire of a year that... Continue Reading →
Be The Change – yes you!!
So today is a big deal, I get it, we all get it. However today saddens me, from what I see online & talking to people it saddens almost everyone. Yes voting is important, however how we live our lives is significantly more important. Somehow we as a society have arrived at a place where... Continue Reading →
Hope & the Youth of Today
This morning my 10 year old daughter had a bit of a melt down because she only got 88% for mathematics on her recent progress report, not a grade, but a progress report. It was strange, because when I was a kid my parents would probably have done a dance if I got an 88%... Continue Reading →
What if, we the people decided to be the change? What if, we the people declared we would be the hope? What if, we the people decided that we are better together, regardless of race, nationality, ancestral origin, political, philosophical and theological differences? What if, we the people decided respect and cooperation were better than... Continue Reading →
Let me tell you about my America The land that I have always loved It is not a land of a particular political party Or a certain belief system It is a cultural melting pot of the world It is a place of hope & promise The land of dreams Dreams for all Where... Continue Reading →
How about we take a look at the real problem?
The simple tag line of "gun control " may be the single laziest summation of a problem of epic complexity that I have heard. All solutions must begin somewhere, that somewhere should start with an honest analysis of the actual problem & from there difficult questions must be asked and answered with regards to how... Afraid For The Future
I’m no politician, no expert, I find the whole thing so utterly distasteful & corrupt that I try to stay away. I live my life the best I can (most of the time), enjoy myself & try to make a small positive impact in the world. Yet at times it is hard to ignore it... Continue Reading →
Let’s make America great again! ……… Oh really?
One of the catch phrases that is doing the rounds this silly season, err I mean Presidential campaigning season, is “make America great again”. Which to me quite obviously implies that some people believe that America in it’s current state is not great, however at some point in the past it must have been great,... Continue Reading →
What is going on?
What is going on? It’s a question I should ask more of myself than I do. As it stands, it comes up only occasionally, fleetingly. Things have changed over the last year, not for the better. What things? The intangibles inside, the things that were “fixed” before, or so I thought. 2015 was an odd... Continue Reading →
Happy New Year 2016
Happy new year my friends, the year is now 2016 which seems a little crazy to me, we really are living in the future aren’t we? I hope you all had a wonderful 2015, yet I hope even more for a joyful 2016. My prayer is that it will be a year of peace, healing... Continue Reading →
The Start – Again
Oh hey look, writing, yeah about that … I’m not going to sit here & talk about how I am going to get back on the blogging train, I might, but I can’t make promises right now. Somehow, someway I’ve found myself in a strange place. When I started the blog it was in a... Continue Reading →
Rediscovered Joy – Video Gaming & Destiny
Of all my interests / hobbies, video games probably consume the most of my free time, yet oddly enough, it’s not a subject I write about very often. Mostly that is because there is a dearth of gaming writers out there, but also because until recently I’d been slowly losing the desire to game. It had... Continue Reading →
What happened to writing? I asked myself this question the other day, sadly the answer is I’m not sure. Somehow over the last few months or longer it has taken more and more of a back seat to other things. That in itself is not really a problem I guess, I mean yes I do... Continue Reading →
What do you want from life?
What do you want from life? That great question that seems so important, we are forever asking it of ourselves & of others, just as they ask it from us. It also begs the question, what are you willing to want? You see it’s no use to call a fantasy a dream. If you’re not... Continue Reading →
The craziest thing happened yesterday I got a notification on the WordPress app that my blog has now been up for 2 years. 2 years! From a guy that thought he had nothing to say. It has been quite the ride, a lot has happened in the last 2 years, I have changed a lot... Continue Reading →
