There is a delightful flow to the book. It dances around the perspectives of the main protagonists to weave a rich tapestry of intrigue. The tension slowly builds throughout the book, just when you think you know what is going to happen, then narrative twists and the turns again, and again. It is a majestic piece of story telling, a wonderfully written and engaging story that will delight you.
Reading: Grateful by Diana Butler Bass
I recently finished reading the book Grateful by Diana Butler Bass. She was a guest on the Faith Angle podcast and her input to that conversation intrigued me to the point of buying and reading the book What do you think of when you hear the word grateful? Is it possible that we apply an... Continue Reading →
The Most Beautiful Thing I’ve Seen by Lisa Gungor
I was recently listening to an episode of the Liturists podcast (a post on podcasts will be coming soon) & the wife of one of the hosts was a guest on the episode, she was there to discuss her new book. The author; Lisa Gungor, the book; “The Most Beautiful Thing I’ve Seen”. After listening... Continue Reading →
Mistborn
I am not what you would call a reader, or at least not what I would call a reader. So much so, that there is an entire section of my blog that was dedicated to encouraging myself to read. For a while I was writing reviews for the books I had assigned myself to read.... Continue Reading →
Reading: The Shack by William P Young
After a good start to the year with reading I allowed myself to get out of the habit until recently when I read The Shack. The book was given to my wife to read by a neighbor, my wife who is an amazingly fast reader took a long time to read the book so I... Continue Reading →
Reading: The Last Champions by Dave Simpson
Following the intensity of the last 2 books I read I almost took a break, but I decided that rather than take a break from reading I would move onto a completely different subject from Jesus & read The Last Champions by Dave Simpson. The book is a look at the 1991-92 Football League championship... Continue Reading →
Reading: Jesus is Better Than You Imagined
As I’ve confessed many times on here, I don’t read much; at least I didn’t read much. The reason there is a reading section on my blog is not because I feel I have some literary review talents, but that I need to almost guilt myself into reading more. There is nothing necessarily wrong with... Continue Reading →
Reading: Unveiled by Alan Smith
Well look at me I finished another book – woohoo!! Very different from Elmore Leonard’s collection of short stories, Unveiled is a Christian book on “The transforming power of God’s presence and voice”. I actually bought the book about a year ago. The author Alan Smith was a pastor at a large church in a... Continue Reading →
Reading? Yeah, about that …..
Last year, when embarking on this conscious journey to become better / more / whatever the word should be, I made the declaration that not only was I going to make myself read more in 2013, but I was going to write about what I had read. When I initially thought about this catch up... Continue Reading →
Recording & reading update
I appear to have been slacking on documenting my reading & also music recording efforts. 2 reasons for this, 1st there is not that much to report & 2nd, progress has been slow on both fronts. I have been doing much reading, just not from my list of books, most of it online doing... Continue Reading →
Reading: A Supposedly fun thing I’ll never do again
A Supposedly fun thing I’ll never do again, essays and arguments; David Foster Wallace (1997) Well, my attempt to read this book in it’s entirety on vacation was frankly, an epic fail. You see, while I dedicated a significant period of time on my vacation to reading, I am a painfully slow reader and... Continue Reading →
Wild at Heart; John Eldridge
Wild at Heart; John Eldridge Well I finally finished my 2nd book. My men’s group were / are using this book for our current study. The book is extremely powerful, it is one that I need to return to at least 1 more time. If you receive it correctly it will get in your junk,... Continue Reading →
Reading: The Practice of the Presence of God
The Practice of the Presence of God; Brother Lawrence Translated by E.M. Blaiklock Well I finally finished a book. Admittedly I am reading 3 at once but this has taken much longer than I anticipated. This book was a gift from my Uncle back in England. The book is a collection of recorded conversations... Continue Reading →
Reading
This is a going to be the place that I keep track of all the books I read in 2013, whatever the reason I read the book I will note it here. I will also make some separate post to place my findings in the book. Why? Well I don’t read, by choice I simply... Continue Reading →
